Research with animal models plays a fundamental role in the development of medical treatments that improve the lives of people and animals. Without research in animals, we would not have most of the medicines and surgical techniques that are applied in human and veterinary medicine. Currently, these models remain essential.
The use of animals in research is strictly regulated. Studies at Seguridad y Bienestar Animal SL are meticulously evaluated by our Ethics Committee and always require final authorization by the Competent Authority. In addition, to live up to the privilege of using animals in experimentation, we strive to go beyond legal requirements and ensure that animals and the people who work with them are treated with compassion and respect.
Animal welfare is of paramount relevance for us, not only from the point of view of our ethical responsibility towards animals, but also because it is impossible to do quality science without guaranteeing their welfare. In this context, we are clear that the 3Rs are the guidelines to follow in the use of animals in research, and we are committed to the proactive implementation of its principles, which promote the use of alternative methods (Replacement), minimize the number of animals used (Reduction) and improve animal welfare through the Refinement of procedures and the use of environmental enrichment.
We are also convinced of the importance of the well-being of the people who take care of our animals. All personnel involved in experimentation must have the necessary training and knowledge, as well as the support of the environment. Taking care of the welfare of animals inevitably begins by taking care of the emotional health of the people who work with them.
At Seguridad y Bienestar Animal SL we maintain a solid commitment to the continuous improvement of animal welfare, the care of our staff, technical and scientific quality, and transparency in research. To make this commitment visible, we promote the transparency of our scientific activity by joining the Agreement on Openness on Animal Research, promoted from the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE), with the aim of promoting communication with the community to make known that our research is relevant, competent and humane.
